| Can I easily switch back and forth between modified and unmodified play from the same save? |

No, it's not easily possible to switch between modified and unmodified play in the same savegame. While you can indeed disable mods easily and uninstall them afterwards, there's always a risk that a mod (or a combination of them) had a negative influence on your savegame causing a bug or problem, which does not vanish when uninstalling it. It is also possible that left-overs from these mods remain in your savegame.
To be on the safe side and to be able to return to a vanilla savegame, you should make a backup of your savegames before installing any third-party extensions. Additionally, if you report a problem in the technical support forum for X Rebirth and have used mods in your savegame before, which you have disabled / uninstalled now, you should state this fact in your support topic and ideally also list the modifications you had installed.
Please note: Savegame edits and own modifications of single game files are considered to be a modification in this context and should be mentioned too.
