X Rebirth supports the usage of scripts and mods. However, technical support for the game is only provided for unmodified games. Therefore it is important to know, under which circumstances a game is considered to be modified or unmodified.

The unmodified game, often referred to as "vanilla", is just the game as installed out of the box or from Steam and patched to its latest version. Any official content provided by Egosoft, such as Downloadable Content expansions (DLC), is also considered to be vanilla, but should be mentioned separately.

Whereas your game is considered to be modified, if either one or more of the following statements apply:
  • You have one or more third-party extensions installed. These can be scripts or mods, for example provided through the Steam Workshop or in the Egosoft Scripts and Modding Forum.

  • You have modified one or more gamefiles yourself.

  • You have edited the savegame you are playing.
